Part 4. Configuring Chrome

Making Chrome Your Default Web Browser

After VS Code is installed and properly configured, we also recommend using Google Chrome (or at the very least, a Chromium-based web browser) as your default web browser.

There are many good reasons why you should use Chrome as your default web browser:

  1. Chrome is by far the most popular web browser in use today, capturing somewhere between 65% and 70% of the global market share on all platforms and devices!
  2. Chrome adheres more closely to the web standards established by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3G), the Web Hypertext Application Technology Working Group (WHATWG), and Ecma International, than other web browsers.
  3. Chrome has the best web development tools available already built into the web browser and we will be using those tools in this course with many of these website tutorials.
  4. Live Server will launch your web applications automatically in the Chrome web browser so it will be your best tool for testing your code.

In short, by using Chrome as your default browser, you will find that your projects run more smoothly, and it will be easier to troubleshoot your code using Chrome than with any other default web browser. And your code will already be compatible with the majority of the web browsers in the world today.

If you don't already have Google Chrome installed, then click here to download and install it. Once Chrome is installed, it needs to be set as your default web browser in order for the Live Server extension in VS Code to launch your web pages automatically. Are We Done Yet?

Yes! Amazingly enough, we are done and ready to test everything out. Let's move on to the next section.
